Midweek Pick Me Up!
Feeling dry AF with this season change? Same girl, same. I always find the spring transition really difficult on my hair and skin… after finally getting relief from combatting winter scalp flaking, we transition to the time of year when our ends turn into crispy little bits due to sunshine and all the messy buns and tangles of spring/summer.
I’m going to keep this super short and drop you babes my go to weekly DIY masque that I use in combination with my KEVIN.MURPHY Regimen.
Its two ingredients that you can source from your local refill store (I use Great Lakes Refill).
How I do!
I prefer to do this treatment 1:1 and for my length and thickness of hair I use about 4 tablespoons of each oil.
Step 1: Heat up the Jojoba oil, I use my stove top on low just until it is warm enough for me to still touch and not hot. Let’s say wax pot warm.
Step 2: Add the warm Jojoba oil to the castor oil and give a little mix.
Step 3: Make sure your hair is tangle free and dry. Work the oil mixture into your hair starting at the ends and working your way up. You can massage the remainder into your scalp for extra hydration. Wrap your hair in a nice loose bun so you aren’t adding any tension on the hair (I have a designated treatment scrunchie for this that I wash and reuse for this purpose).
Step 4: RELAX, or don’t, you do you! But leave this in for at least half hour. I actually leave this treatment in the night before I’m due for a hair wash so it has all night to hydrate my tresses.
Step 5: Wash and Rinse as usual and enjoy your shiny, hydrated hair!
*PRO TIP I always wash my hair twice treatment or not but if you don’t usually do a second wash I would recommend double washing for this treatment.
You can use any carrier oil and sub out jojoba oil BUT avoid coconut oil please! It’s a beautiful oil with lots of uses but really doesn’t penetrate and give the benefits of alternative oils and can block the beneficial components of the castor oil from doing its job with this particular treatment.
